The mountain community of Flagstaff started as a railroad and logging
town- now it's best known for its high, cool location in the ponderosa
pine forests of Northern Arizona. It's both a popular summer recreation
area for Arizonans escaping the hot desert cities, and a stopping place
for tourists. If you like to hike, you've come to the right place- we
have lots of trails in the city and on the surrounding Coconino
National Forest. Best Easy Day Hikes Flagstaff describes 20 of the
easiest day hikes in the Flagstaff area. It's aimed at the visitor or
local who wants a pocket-sized guide to those local hikes that don't
demand a great deal of time or effort. All the hikes are derived from
my more comprehensive FalconGuide, Hiking Northern Arizona. There's a
list ranking the hikes from easiest to hardest (though none are hard!),
and an "at-a-glance" section begins each hike description so you can
easily find a hike to match your desires. Each hike features a clear,
accurate map, and precise directions to the trailhead.
