Subject: Jay Lively Update

Hello,

My name is Elizabeth Neumayer and I am the Community Enrichment Services Director that oversees Recreation for the City of Flagstaff. Many of you I have had the pleasure to meet.

I am writing to you now, as you have been one who has emailed regarding the status of the Jay Lively Ice Arena after the recent damages incurred by a record breaking snow storm. I will be your direct contact from the City regarding the recovery actions for this facility. Please do not contact the facility supervisor, Michael Abeyta, with your questions or suggestions, as he will just forward all correspondence to me. I am happy to keep you abreast of any and all information that I have at my disposal.

At this juncture, we are assessing the extent of the damage via our engineers, insurance assessors, and Risk management Department. These preliminary reports will assist us to determine what the best course of action will be (repairs, replacements, reconstruction, etc.). Rest assured, it is the City's intent to provide the community with the ice rink. Amongst this most unfortunate act of Mother Nature, there may be opportunity to build/rebuild a better amenity for all!

One of the most urgent issues that we are addressing is the immediate needs of our user groups. Locating non-ice opportunities for practice and alternative ice sheets/portable rinks for on-ice practices/games is of utmost importance to the staff at Recreation Services. Recreation Superintendent, Brian Grube, is coordinating that effort with respect to opportunities at the Flagstaff Aquaplex, for example. We are also contacting other sources in Northern Arizona for portable rink options and perhaps local area spaces that can have temporary outdoor frozen spots, as suggested by Mr. Brad King.

The City also intends on hosting a Community Forum in the very near future where we will bring everyone up to date on the City's actions, as well as solicit ideas and support from our user groups and participants. The outpour of support and assistance from the community (and beyond!) has been wonderful and we will look for your continued support as we move forward.

Please continue to email me your suggestions, questions, and concerns and I will do my best to provide regular updates as they occur. Thank you again, on behalf of the City of Flagstaff, for your dedication towards rebuilding the Jay Lively Ice Arena and for your patience as we move forward. The Public Information Officer for the City, Kimberly Ott, will also continue to keep information available to the press as information comes available.

Most Respectfully,

Elizabeth Neumayer
