As I have promised to do regularly, here is the latest update on the Jay Lively Activity Center:
Travelers Insurance adjuster out of Albuquerque will be here Monday afternoon, Feb 1st.
FEMA representatives will also be here on Monday, Feb. 1st. for a PDA for Public Assistance. Reps from Flagstaff, Williams & Munds Park will be involved.
Recreation Superintendent Brian Grube and Recreation Manager Jane Binder have worked with Andrea Labelle to accommodate Youth Hockey off-ice practices at the Flagstaff Aquaplex beginning in February.
The City is working with BEC Southwest to prepare a cost estimate of the damages to Jay Lively in order to submit for funding through FEMA. Staff met with their engineer two days ago to tour the facility. Preliminary reports note significant damages. A Project Manager from the City has been assigned to the project.
Staff has been in contact with Williams to explore the feasibility of utilizing their portable ice rink. It's quite expensive to set up and it doesn't come with a chiller but it's clearly a worthy option to keep exploring. Deputy City Manager Ben Fisk and other staff are preparing to make a trip to Williams to inspect. Possible locations in Flagstaff are also being explored to place a portable rink.
Facility Supervisor Mike Abeyta is heading efforts to salvage all equipment, banners, trophies, etc. from the facility. Please contact him directly to get updates on when that will occur. Please be aware that no non-City staff can enter the building at this time, as we cannot confirm if it is structurally sound/safe.
Todd Walsh from FoxSports will be in town this afternoon, doing a story on Jay and his family. City staff have been asked to provide an interview regarding the roof collapse. I will probably be the one to do the interview.
That wraps up all of the end of the week updates that I have. I have created a Distribution List of emails for updates as they become available. Please let me know if there are any emails that I should add. Thank you all for your continued support & advocacy for the Jay Lively Activity Center.
