Good Morning,
Just wanted to give the latest updates regarding the Jay Lively Activity Center -
Facility Assessments and Debris Removal:
The last few days we have melt the ice so we can safely enter the structure to begin removal of damaged insulation and debris. We need to do a detailed engineering assessment of the remaining structure to determine what repairs are required. Please be aware we are in the very beginning stages on this, and right now, even the extent of damage has not been fully determined. The City's Insurance team has been on site this week. Forensic work is underway and activities for removal of debris are happening now. Valuation findings are forthcoming. Please contact Facility Supervisor Mike Abeyta if you have equipment that was stored inside of the Center prior to the roof collapse - these items have been removed from the building and stored in the McPherson building on site. Representatives from FEMA completed their site tour of the facility and the paperwork has been completed for any public assistance towards repairs from the storm.
Next Steps:
Staff is currently assessing locations for temporary indoor ice within leasable buildings in Flagstaff. Staff has also been in discussions with the City of Williams on securing their portable ice rink. No decisions have been made to either regard at this juncture.
City Council will be discussing options and alternatives at the next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, February 9th at 5:30 pm at City Hall. One of the main topics for discussion at that meeting will be a proposal received to purchase the rink by a private entity. A full comprehensive status report on the Jay Lively Activity Center will be presented to the Council and those interested are encouraged to attend the meeting.
Thank you again for your support and advocacy for the Jay Lively Activity Center. I will continue to keep you informed as new information becomes available.
